The most exciting films I’ve seen in years.
“Mesrine” follows the story of Jacques Mesrine,
A French criminal active from the late 50’s to the late 70’s.
Check out his wikipedia page here.
This guy was fucking crazy.
Leaves the army,
Is made redundant from his job,
Decides on a career of crime,
Goes back to attack the jail.
I understand that there have been some films made about Jacques Mesrine before but you’ve never seen anything like these ones folks.
The film was released in 2 parts:
Part 1: “Mesrine: Killer Instinct”:
& Part 2: “Mesrine: Public Enemy No.1”:
In the latest pair of films Vincent Cassel takes on the role of Mesrine and gives a performance worthy of De Niro at the peak of his career.
Both of the films were filmed back to back and the transformation in both Vincent Cassels’ performance and body are amazing.
He manages to pull off going from charming and likeable to extreme ruthless violence.
With the exception of De Niro,
I’ve never seen a performance like Cassel gives here.
As fucking ruthless and crazy as this guy was,
Vincent Cassel manages to make you root for him!
Jacques Mesrine was a bad guy but he was also very clever and astonishingly,
He even courted the media whilst in hiding.
Viewed back to back, It will take almost 5 hours but will leave you stunned at the sheer scope of these films.
Think: “Once Upon A Time In America”.
The films give you this mans’ life as best as just under 5 hours allows for.
And if you haven’t seen any of the above,
Forget everything and see “Mesrine” because it’s not really anything like the above mentioned flicks.
I like big films.
How much of a story can you really fit into an hour and a half?
This is a big unflinching, unconventional epic with career defining performances.
Go see it.
