The back of the photo says it was taken on June 1982 and although you may not believe me, I remember this like it happened yesterday,
Because…It was the scariest moment of my life!
Aye that’s right.
When I was a kid my Mum & Dad bought a big 5 foot tall terrifying knitted clown and put it to bed with me.
- Every night!
- For years!
They thought I liked it!
…Right up until I could talk and tell them everything. Y’know, how I’d been living in fear etc…
That clown is long gone now. I threw it out myself.
I’m 30 in a couple of weeks and sometimes, just sometimes, I get the feeling that it’s just waiting to show up again and whisper bad things in my ears like it used to.
“Kill for me baby Alan! Kill for me and I’ll give you all the rusks you want!” it would say.
I can’t go on.
The memories are still just too disturbing for me 
It’s really strange walking around the centre of Glasgow just now. Every so often you’ll hear the words “Dead Body”, “Zombies” and yesterday, I even overheard a wee girl say “Is this Judgment Day Dad?”.
It’s quite creepy.
The “World War Z” production has rolled into town!
For roughly 2 weeks, George Square will be doubling for Philadelphia as Brad Pitt films his scenes for the post-apocalyptic zombie flick “World War Z” and if you ask me, it’s one of the best things to happen to the city for a while. The streets are totally buzzing!
I live 5 minutes walk away from the set and I’ve been going down as much as possible. I can’t believe how quickly the Square has been transformed to look like Philly and we’re not just talking about putting a couple of American flags here and there either.
Painted road signs and markings have been removed and replaced with American signs, traffic lights have been pulled down and been replaced with (much cooler looking) ‘WALK’ and “DON’T WALK’ signs and streets have been renamed.
The really cool stuff happened a couple of days ago when a huge car crash was staged! Surprisingly, the producers of “World War Z” have no problem with the public getting up real close with their cameras most of the time and yesterday, we got to walk along the crash scene which was great because they actually had dummies lying dead in their crumpled cars and…actually, shall I just shut up and show you some of the the photos I took?
You should get yourself down to George Square and take all of this stuff in because in a matter of days it’ll all be gone.

Almost 2 years have gone by since I wandered into The Strathclyde Suite in The Royal Concert Hall and saw Pokey LaFarge & The South City Three play one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen and they are STILL one of my favourite bands right now.

I got a hold of their performance at last year’s Newport Folk Festival and it’s just as good as their studio work.
I listen to these guys a lot and the Newport performance put me right in the mood for some more oldies…
Robert Crumb And His Cheap Suit Serenaders.
- Now there’s a fucking band!
Robert Crumb is of course, THEE Robert Crumb; the World famous (and notorious) underground cartoonist and illustrator. If you think his drawings are the works of a genius, you should check out this debut album because it fits perfectly with his artwork and him and his band will take you right back to the 1920′s.
Back to when music was good and inspired and played with heart.
Back before it was cheap and disposable like most of it is now.
I’ve been playing that Leadbelly compilation up there quite a lot recently too because I don’t know how he gets his 12-string guitar to sound exactly like it does and I want to find out. I’m pretty sure it’s because he tunes real low and hits his guitar rather than plays it.
Big Mama Thorton’s version of “Hound Dog” will always be better than Presley’s for me but this particular album has a song on it which I love just as much. It’s called “Big Mama” and I love it because it starts off like this:
“WELL…THEY CALL ME ‘BIG MAMA”BECAUSE I WEIGH 300 POUNDS!“
Big Mama Thornton is how I imagine the Woman at the top of those legs in the Tom & Jerry Cartoons to be!
I’m not moving house very far. In fact I’m moving next door to myself but that’s besides the point because moving can still drive you crazy and sometimes it’s better if you just go with it and Jack Nitzsche’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” soundtrack will take you all the way to crazy and back.
I love that soundtrack more than the six invisible penguins who helped me move my things out of the flat.
